Starting this late autumn, the Yongding River in Beijing has become a hotspot for birdwatchers as dozens of rare species, including peregrine falcons and black-winged kites, have begun their migration journey here. This influx of wild birds is not just a spectacle for enthusiasts but also a significant indicator of the region's improving ecological health.
In addition to the Yongding River, the bird habitat enhancement demonstration area northeast of Beijing's Miyun Reservoir has seen over 10,000 migratory birds gather in recent months. By December 2023, the Miyun Reservoir had recorded 235 bird species, marking an increase of 45 species since 2020. Notably, some birds under first-class national protection have become regular visitors, underscoring the success of conservation efforts and environmental policies aimed at enhancing natural habitats.
These positive changes highlight Beijing's commitment to environmental sustainability and showcase how ecological improvements can lead to thriving wildlife populations.
