Chinese NPC Standing Committee to Review Key Laws in December Session

The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) is set to convene its 13th session from December 21 to 25 in Beijing.

Presided over by Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, the meeting will focus on revising crucial legislation. Lawmakers will deliberate on amendments to the law on people's congress deputies, the value-added tax law, and the supervision law. Additionally, they will consider proposals from various NPC departments and the State Council.

Beyond legislative revisions, the agenda includes reports on financial audit work, disaster and emergency response funds, and farmland protection submitted by the State Council. These discussions are pivotal in shaping China's governance and economic strategies for the coming years.

The session will also adopt the NPC Standing Committee's key tasks and work plan for 2025, outlining priorities in legislation, oversight, deputies, and external affairs. Furthermore, a report on maintaining contacts with NPC deputies in 2024 will be deliberated, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the legislative body.

This December session represents a significant step in China's legislative process, addressing both current and future challenges through comprehensive policy reviews and strategic planning.
