Ma Ying-jeou is set to lead a delegation of Taiwan youth to the Chinese mainland from December 18 to 26, a spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, announced that the delegation will explore northeast China's Heilongjiang Province and southwest China's Sichuan Province. A highlight of their visit will be attending the Cross-Straits Youth Ice and Snow Festival in Heilongjiang.
Expressing a warm welcome, Zhu emphasized that the mainland has arranged a variety of activities for the visiting youth. \"With a long history, splendid culture, vast territory, and magnificent landscapes, China serves as the common home for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait,\" Zhu stated.
She further highlighted the importance of youth in shaping the future of cross-Straits relations. \"Young people on both sides carry the hope for the future. We encourage frequent exchanges and visits to jointly promote traditional Chinese culture, enhance cooperation in various fields, and work towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.\"
