In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized on Tuesday that China and Vietnam will uphold a stable strategic orientation and maintain high-level exchanges to support each other's modernization efforts.
The remarks were made during the 16th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, co-chaired by Wang and Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Beijing.
Wang highlighted that the leaders of both nations have reached a crucial consensus to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. As they approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges, both countries are setting the stage for the next phase of strategic and long-term cooperation.
Emphasizing the importance of security, Wang called for the consolidation of the security foundation through the \"3+3\" strategic dialogue, which covers diplomacy, defense, and public security. He also stressed the need to establish a stable and seamless cross-border industrial and supply chain, enhance cooperation in emerging sectors, and foster people-to-people friendships by increasing flight connectivity.
Moreover, Wang underscored the necessity of genuine multilateralism, effective management of differences, and advancing maritime cooperation to achieve new milestones in the bilateral relationship.
Echoing these sentiments, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed Vietnam's commitment to implementing the consensus reached by the top leaders. He viewed the upcoming anniversary as an opportunity to maintain frequent high-level contacts and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and culture.
The two foreign ministers also marked the 25th anniversary of the demarcation of the land boundary between China and Vietnam, as well as the 15th anniversary of the signing of key legal documents governing the land border and related ports management.
This renewed commitment to cooperation underscores the enduring partnership between China and Vietnam, aiming to navigate future challenges and seize opportunities for shared prosperity.
