China Showcases Saihanba’s Green Miracle at COP16 2024

The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to 13, 2024. This pivotal event brings together representatives from 197 parties to tackle urgent challenges related to land degradation, desertification, and drought.

The conference aims to accelerate global efforts in land restoration and bolster resilience against drought through sustainable land management strategies.

Among the nations grappling with desertification, the Chinese mainland has been significantly impacted. Over the years, China's unwavering commitment to combating desertification and fostering harmony between humans and nature has garnered global recognition.

At COP16, the Chinese mainland has established a special pavilion spanning 608 square meters, marking the largest national-themed pavilion apart from the host country. This pavilion represents the first instance where the Chinese mainland has showcased its achievements in desertification control and the renowned \"Three-North Shelterbelt Program\" on the international stage.

A highlight of the pavilion is the story of Saihanba, located at the intersection of the North China Plain and the Mongolian Plateau at an average altitude of 1,500 meters. Through the dedicated efforts of three generations of local residents who painstakingly planted trees, Saihanba has transformed into the world's largest artificial forest capable of combating desertification and land degradation.
