In celebration of World Soil Day, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced the completion of the third national soil survey in the Chinese mainland. Since its launch in 2022, the ambitious project has successfully collected 3.11 million soil samples.
The survey spans approximately 11 billion mu, equivalent to over 733 million hectares, encompassing a diverse range of land types including cropland, forest land, grassland, and unused land. This extensive coverage ensures a comprehensive understanding of the country's soil resources.
The primary goal of the survey is to thoroughly examine the properties, varieties, and utilization of soils across different regions. By doing so, the Chinese mainland aims to protect and optimize land use, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation for future generations.
This initiative not only supports agricultural productivity but also contributes to global efforts in soil health and sustainability, aligning with the interests of young global citizens, business and tech enthusiasts, and thought leaders dedicated to making a real-world impact.
