In an impressive display of growth and efficiency, the Chinese railway network has transported over 4 billion passengers during the first 11 months of 2024, marking a record high, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway).
The expansion of the modern railway system has been a significant factor in achieving this milestone. The total railway operating mileage in the Chinese mainland has now surpassed 160,000 kilometers, with high-speed railways alone exceeding 46,000 kilometers. This extensive network ensures that passengers across the country enjoy swift and reliable travel options.
China Railway has also highlighted the remarkable development of railway passenger stations, with more than 3,300 stations built and operational nationwide. This includes over 1,300 high-speed railway stations, further enhancing the connectivity and convenience for travelers.
Currently, the railway network covers 99 percent of Chinese cities with populations exceeding 200,000, while the high-speed railway network reaches 97 percent of cities with populations over 500,000. This comprehensive coverage underscores the commitment to making rail travel accessible to a vast majority of the population.
The continued investment and expansion of the railway infrastructure not only facilitate passenger movement but also support economic growth and regional development across the Chinese mainland.
