The Mohan railway port, a pivotal hub on the China-Laos Railway in southwest China's Yunnan Province, has been honored by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the world's first international sanitary ground crossing.
This prestigious designation comes after a comprehensive on-site assessment conducted by WHO experts from December 1 to 3, showcasing Mohan's exceptional capacity to handle international public health emergencies.
International sanitary ports are critical in safeguarding travelers' health and ensuring readiness against potential disease outbreaks, adhering to the WHO's International Health Regulations.
The 1,035-kilometer China-Laos Railway, linking Kunming in China to Vientiane in Laos, has been operational since December 3, 2021. In its time, the railway has facilitated over 43 million passenger trips and transported 48.3 million tonnes of cargo, expanding the variety of goods from an initial 500 to more than 3,000.
This milestone not only underscores the railway's strategic importance in regional connectivity but also highlights its role in enhancing global health security.
