In a significant boost to international relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chilean counterpart Alberto van Klaveren Stork in Beijing on Wednesday to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the strong amity and friendship shared by the people of China and Chile. Despite the geographical distance, bilateral relations have consistently developed, marking a steady trajectory of growth.
Highlighting Chile's exemplary role in fostering ties with China, Wang noted that the leaders of both countries have steered bilateral cooperation towards achieving remarkable outcomes. \"China-Chile relations have entered the best period,\" Wang declared, underscoring the positive momentum in their partnership.
Looking ahead, next year will celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the free trade agreement between China and Chile. Wang expressed China's readiness to collaborate with Chile to build on the consensus reached by their respective leaders, aiming to enhance political mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation, and connectivity.
China is committed to maintaining high-level exchanges and close communication with Chile across all levels. The focus will be on improving economic and trade cooperation, expanding collaborations in emerging sectors such as information technology and clean energy, and aligning development strategies for synergistic growth.
Both nations, as key players in the Asia-Pacific region, are encouraged to strengthen international coordination and jointly uphold the values of multilateralism and free trade.
Alberto van Klaveren Stork reiterated Chile's firm adherence to the one-China principle, a cornerstone of its foreign policy that remains unchanged. He affirmed Chile's commitment to enhancing high-level and people-to-people exchanges with China, deepening cooperation across various fronts, improving connectivity, and fostering further progress in bilateral relations.
