Chinese Scholar Accuses Western Media of Misrepresenting China

The 2024 \"Understanding China\" conference is underway in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. Liu Zongyi, director of the South Asian Research Center at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, has voiced concerns about the portrayal of China in Western media.

Liu shared that young scholars and diplomats from Bangladesh who recently visited the Chinese mainland reported a stark contrast between the narratives presented by Western outlets and their actual experiences in the country. According to Liu, these visitors found China to be vastly different from the image portrayed in the media, highlighting a potential bias in international reporting.

This discussion comes at a time when global perceptions of China are increasingly influential in shaping international relations, business strategies, and cultural exchanges. The conference aims to bridge understanding and foster dialogue among experts to provide a more nuanced view of China's development and its role on the global stage.
