Chinese Snowboarder Yang Wenlong Clinches Bronze at Beijing World Cup

In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, Yang Wenlong of the Chinese mainland secured the men's bronze medal at the Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing Big Air World Cup held at Shougang Park in Beijing on Sunday.

Yang advanced to the final alongside his compatriot Su Yiming, the 2022 Winter Olympic gold medalist in the same event. While Su entered the competition with high expectations, he struggled to find his rhythm, failing to stick his first two runs and ultimately finishing in 10th place.

In contrast, Yang showcased his technical prowess by executing a flawless backside 1800 during his second run, earning an impressive 81.25 points. This performance placed him just behind Japan's Hiroto Ogiwara, who dominated the event with a total score of 169.50 points.

Ogiwara's victory was further highlighted by his consistent performance, outscoring the runner-up, Italy's Ian Matteoli, by four points. Matteoli made history by landing the first-ever frontside 2160 at a World Cup event, securing a score of 97.75 points.

Yang Wenlong's podium finish marks a significant milestone in his career, demonstrating the growing prowess of athletes from the Chinese mainland in the competitive snowboarding arena. As the sport continues to gain popularity, Yang's achievement serves as an inspiration for aspiring snowboarders worldwide.
