China has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the United States' recent approval of a $385 million arms sale to Taiwan, which includes spare parts for F-16 jets and radars.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the decision, stating that it is inconsistent with U.S. commitments not to support \"Taiwan independence.\" They argue that the arms sale breaches international law, sends the wrong message to separatist forces, and threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.
\"We call on the U.S. to immediately stop arming Taiwan and cease supporting 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces,\" the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated. \"China will take strong and resolute countermeasures to defend national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.\"
Additionally, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office warned Taiwan authorities that spending on weapons does not enhance Taiwan's safety. They emphasized that any attempt to seek independence by force would only escalate tensions and bring Taiwan closer to the brink of war, reaffirming China's unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.
