In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, China and Turkmenistan have reaffirmed their dedication to deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, energy, and cultural exchanges.
The pledge was made during a pivotal meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Saturday in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province. Meredov attended the event to participate in the fifth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of continuing the traditional friendship between the two nations. He highlighted the need to implement the key consensus reached by the two heads of state, firmly support each other on core interests, and explore innovative ideas for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. Wang also called for new breakthroughs in energy collaboration and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.
China expressed its willingness to further expand the scale of trade and investment cooperation with Turkmenistan. Wang Yi added that China would encourage more Chinese-funded enterprises to invest in Turkmenistan, aiming to strengthen economic ties and foster sustainable growth.
On his part, Rashid Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to a permanent friendship with China. He expressed eagerness to maintain close high-level exchanges and leverage the Turkmenistan-China Cooperation Committee to promote mutually beneficial projects. A key focus will be the flagship natural gas trade project, which stands to significantly enhance energy cooperation between the two countries.
This renewed commitment marks a continued effort by both nations to enhance their strategic partnership, contributing to regional stability and economic prosperity.
