China and U.S. Aim for Stronger Military Ties to Ensure Global Stability

China and the United States are taking significant steps to build a robust military-to-military relationship. Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, emphasized the importance of cooperation based on non-conflict and non-confrontation, aiming to gradually accumulate mutual trust between the two nations.

At a recent press conference, Wu highlighted that maintaining an open and substantive military dialogue is crucial for the stability of overall China-U.S. relations. Despite recent fluctuations in their relationship, the two militaries have continued to engage in dialogue and cooperation, fostering a generally stable connection.

Wu urged the United States to work collaboratively with China, adopting a positive and rational perspective towards China's growth and its military advancements. He stressed that peace, stability, and credibility should remain the foundational principles guiding military engagements between the two countries.

Addressing recent accusations made by the U.S. Secretary of Defense regarding China's activities in the South China Sea, Wu defended China's stance. He quoted Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun, who refuted claims of coercive behavior, stating that the U.S. is instigating provocations in the region for its own gains, which undermines regional peace and stability.

Wu attributed these tensions to the U.S.'s entrenched Cold War mentality and hegemonic ambitions. He reaffirmed China's commitment to resolving disputes through friendly consultations and called on the U.S. to cease fabricating lies and making provocations, urging both nations to avoid further escalating tensions.
