The Chinese mainland is bracing for significant weather changes as meteorological authorities have renewed blue alerts for cold waves and strong winds. Residents across various regions can expect sharp temperature drops and powerful winds in the coming days.
According to the National Meteorological Center, from Saturday to Thursday, temperatures in most parts of the Chinese mainland are set to fall by six to 10 degrees Celsius. In the northwestern, northern, and northeastern regions, some areas could experience even more drastic drops, ranging between 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, with certain zones seeing decreases of up to 16 degrees Celsius.
The National Meteorological Center also highlighted that from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, powerful winds are expected to affect areas including the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xizang Autonomous Region, the provinces of Qinghai and Gansu, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Taiwan Strait, the sea area off the east of Taiwan, and parts of the South China Sea.
In Beijing, the Meteorological Service has issued warnings of a significant temperature drop starting Sunday evening. The city could see a mix of rain and snow, particularly in the western and northern parts, with most urban areas and plains being dominated by rainfall. These conditions are expected to last until noon on Monday, after which strong winds and freezing temperatures will persist until Wednesday.
China utilizes a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, where red signals the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow, and blue alerts. The renewed blue alerts serve as an important heads-up for residents and businesses to prepare for the upcoming cold and windy conditions.
