Sanya Welcomes 12th National Traditional Games Showcasing 56 Ethnic Cultures

Sanya, located in south China's Hainan Province, is set to host the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities starting this Friday night. This prestigious event will run from November 22 to 30, bringing together approximately 10,000 athletes representing China's 56 ethnic groups.

The Games will feature 139 events across 17 sports, along with three demonstration sports, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of the country. Established in 1953, this event is one of China's oldest national multi-sport competitions.

Sha Xiaolan, the chief director of the opening ceremony, shared with China media Gorup (CMG) that the ceremony will span about two hours and be divided into three parts. A key highlight will be the 30-second performances by each ethnic minority delegation, showcasing their unique cultural heritage.

The opening ceremony will also spotlight Hainan's stunning local features, including its beaches, islands, and coconut forests. These elements will be creatively and digitally integrated to present a vibrant and immersive experience for attendees.

\"It's a signature of ethnic minorities,\" Sha explained. \"Each delegation's 30-second performance at the stadium's opening ceremony, though brief, has been meticulously crafted to serve as a memorable highlight. Special effects will incorporate the numbers 56 and 12, representing China's 56 ethnic groups and the 12th edition of the Games, respectively. The opening ceremony promises unique excellence and is sure to be a highlight of the event.\"
