Rio de Janeiro and CMG Enhance Brazil-China Cultural Collaboration

In a significant move to bolster international cultural ties, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes welcomed Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Media Group (CMG), to City Hall on November 19.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation and cultural exchanges between Brazil and China. Shen Haixiong lauded Rio de Janeiro’s vibrant cultural scene, describing it as a beacon of Brazilian creativity. He highlighted CMG’s extensive collaborations with Brazilian media and film institutions, which have flourished over recent years through initiatives in news reporting, film production, and technological innovation. Shen expressed CMG’s dedication to deepening these cultural partnerships with Rio de Janeiro.

Mayor Paes commended CMG’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Brazil-China relations. He emphasized Rio de Janeiro’s rich cultural heritage, including its dynamic art, music, film, and exhibition landscapes. Paes conveyed the city’s enthusiasm to collaborate with CMG on future film production and cultural exchange projects.

As a symbol of this budding friendship, Mayor Paes presented Shen Haixiong with the key to the city, acknowledging CMG’s role in fostering strong ties between Brazil and China. He extended his best wishes for the continued growth of bilateral relations.
