In a landmark event, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended a signing ceremony and jointly met the press in Brasilia, Brazil, on Wednesday.
President Xi highlighted that China-Brazil relations are currently at their best level in history. He and President Lula have agreed to elevate their partnership to a China-Brazil community with a shared future, aiming for a more just world and a more sustainable planet.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of deepening strategic mutual trust and supporting each other on core interests such as sovereignty, security, and development. They committed to contributing to each other's high-quality development.
In their discussions, the presidents agreed to synergize their development strategies and enhance cooperation in key areas including economy and trade, finance, science and technology, infrastructure, and environmental protection. They also focused on emerging fields like energy transition, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green mining.
Furthermore, President Xi and President Lula pledged to maintain close collaboration in multilateral forums such as the UN, G20, and BRICS. They aim to jointly address traditional and nontraditional security challenges, including hunger, poverty, regional conflicts, climate change, and cyber security, thereby contributing to global peace and development.
The leaders also expressed their concerns regarding the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. President Xi advocated for a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security as the path to universal security. He called for more peace-oriented voices to support a political solution to the Ukraine crisis and urged a ceasefire in Gaza, the implementation of a two-state solution, and continuous efforts towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question.
