In a significant move toward enhancing bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for China and India to return to a stable and healthy development track. Speaking during his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Wang underscored the mutual benefits of robust China-India relations.
Wang highlighted that revitalizing the relationship aligns with the core interests of both nations’ populations, the aspirations of Global South countries, and the progressive direction of history. He advocated for the implementation of key consensuses reached by both leaders, emphasizing the importance of respecting each other's core interests and building mutual trust through open dialogue and sincere communication.
The Foreign Minister called for increased positive interactions, such as the resumption of direct flights, the exchange of journalists, and streamlined visa processes. These steps are aimed at reducing suspicions and fostering greater understanding between the two populous neighbors.
Looking ahead, Wang pointed out that next year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India. He proposed planning commemorative activities and encouraging exchanges across various fields to deepen mutual understanding and trust.
Wang noted that as two major developing nations, China and India share more common interests than differences. He advocated for viewing each other’s development as an opportunity for joint progress, which not only benefits both countries but also supports the rights of developing nations and the move towards a multipolar world.
Both nations share a commitment to non-aligned foreign policies, multilateralism, and the democratization of international relations. Wang encouraged continued collaboration in international affairs and the advancement of platforms like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to strengthen their global partnership.
