800 Scientists Gather in Wenzhou for 2024 World Young Scientist Summit

The city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province played host to nearly 800 scientists from 71 countries and regions at the 2024 World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS) from November 15 to 17. This year's summit, held in east China's vibrant region, attracted 63 international sci-tech organizations, fostering a rich environment for collaboration and innovation.

During the plenary session on Sunday, Wan Gang, president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), highlighted the transformative impact of informatization, digitization, and intelligence on research paradigms. \"These advancements allow young scientists to access knowledge and information more widely, deeply, and conveniently, enabling them to achieve significant breakthroughs by building on the work of their predecessors,\" Wan stated.

Tshilidzi Marwala, under-secretary-general of the United Nations and rector of the United Nations University, emphasized the critical role young scientists play in advancing frontier science. He noted their contribution to creating regional innovation ecosystems and fostering international cooperation, particularly in addressing global challenges like climate change, health disparities, and inequality.

The summit also celebrated outstanding achievements, awarding the second Young Scientist Sustainable Development Goals Award to four promising young scientists from the United States, Britain, France, and China. These awards recognize contributions to sustainable development and inspire the next generation of scientific leaders.

Since its inception in 2019, the WYSS has established itself as a premier platform for young scientists worldwide. Jointly sponsored by CAST and the Zhejiang provincial government, the summit has built strong cooperative relationships with over 200 international sci-tech organizations and universities, promoting a global dialogue on scientific advancements and collaborative research.
