At the APEC CEO Summit 2024, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping emphasized the enduring trend of economic globalization and called for a more inclusive and sustainable approach.
Xi highlighted that the Asia-Pacific region is intricately linked through economic globalization, forming an interdependent community with shared interests and a common future. He likened the current global landscape to navigating a river, stressing the need for proactive efforts to steer the economy forward rather than drifting downstream.
Addressing the challenges of the new period of turbulence and transformation, Xi emphasized that economic globalization is driven by advancing social productive forces and scientific and technological progress. He dismissed attempts to hinder economic cooperation as regressive and urged for greater confidence and innovation to foster stronger global growth.
Xi outlined three key strategies for advancing economic globalization:
- Innovation-Driven Growth: Leveraging advancements in science and technology to benefit humanity, support capacity building in developing countries, and promote the global flow of knowledge.
- Reforming Global Economic Governance: Advocating for principles of shared planning, construction, and benefits, enhancing the representation of the Global South, and ensuring equal rights and opportunities in international economic cooperation.
- People-Centered Development: Addressing development imbalances to ensure that economic globalization fosters balanced growth and equal opportunities for all nations and communities.
Highlighting the robust growth of Asia-Pacific economies, Xi credited peace, stability, multilateralism, and open regionalism as key factors behind the region's success. He expressed confidence that the Asia-Pacific would continue to lead economic globalization, advocating for a green and digital transformation to sustain future growth.
Xi also reaffirmed China's commitment to deepening reforms, advancing high-quality development, and maintaining its role as a major engine of global economic growth. He underscored China's dedication to green development and climate change initiatives, as well as expanding high-standard free trade areas and fostering greater global connectivity.
Concluding his speech, Xi called for enhanced solidarity and cooperation within the Asia-Pacific to tackle global challenges and promote common prosperity, envisioning a brighter future for humanity through collective efforts.
