Xi Jinping Advocates for Inclusive Economic Globalization at APEC Summit

At the APEC CEO Summit 2024, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of fostering an inclusive and universally beneficial vision of economic globalization. He highlighted that the Asia-Pacific region is deeply intertwined with global economic systems, forming an interdependent community with shared interests and a common future.

Xi acknowledged the current global turbulence and transformation, likening the challenges of economic globalization to navigating a river—emphasizing the need to forge ahead rather than drift downstream. He posed a critical question: \"Where will the Asia-Pacific economy be going? It is a decision we must make.\"

He asserted that economic globalization is driven by the growth of social productive forces and advancements in science and technology, stating that despite facing headwinds, it remains a steadfast global trend. Xi criticized attempts to hinder economic cooperation, labeling them as regressive.

Premier Xi outlined a vision for economic globalization that is more dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable, grounded in three key principles:

  • Innovation as the Driving Force: Promoting science and technology to benefit humanity, assisting developing countries in building their capacities, and ensuring the global flow of knowledge.
  • Reforming Global Economic Governance: Adhering to the principles of \"plan together, build together, and benefit together,\" enhancing the representation of the Global South, and ensuring equal rights and opportunities in international economic cooperation.
  • People-Centered Development: Addressing development imbalances to achieve balanced growth and equal opportunities for all countries, classes, and communities.

Xi lauded the Asia-Pacific economies for their robust growth and the remarkable \"Asia-Pacific miracle,\" attributing their success to a commitment to regional peace and stability, true multilateralism, open regionalism, and a strong belief in economic globalization and mutual benefit.

Looking ahead, he called for the Asia-Pacific to continue leading economic globalization by fostering a green and digital economy, building a community with a shared future, and aiming for another 30 years of development.

Premier Xi also highlighted China's role in this vision, mentioning comprehensive reforms, modernization efforts, high-quality Belt and Road initiatives, green development, and the creation of open economic systems. He assured that China remains confident in meeting its growth targets and sustaining its position as a major engine of the world economy.

In conclusion, Xi Jinping urged for enhanced solidarity and cooperation within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, advocating for joint efforts to tackle global challenges and drive common prosperity and a brighter future for humanity.
