Addressing trade issues, Wang criticized Canada's imposition of high tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, stating that such measures undermine the spirit of free trade and hinder healthy economic cooperation. He called on Canada to adhere to World Trade Organization rules and remove discriminatory restrictions on Chinese products.
On the sensitive Taiwan issue, Wang reaffirmed China's stance on sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the universal consensus on the one-China principle within the international community. He expressed hope that Canada would recognize the sensitivity of the Taiwan matter and uphold the one-China principle.
Responding to Wang's comments, Melanie Joly described her visit to China as a positive step, helping to realign bilateral relations. She highlighted progress in increasing direct flights and other collaborative efforts that have enhanced the well-being of both nations' peoples.
