Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Lima, the capital of Peru, on Thursday for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and a state visit. Invited by Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, Xi's arrival was met with a warm welcome from Gustavo Adrianzen, the president of the Council of Ministers, and other senior Peruvian officials.
Local students presented Xi with flowers and greeted him in Chinese, while honor guards lined the red carpet in a display of diplomatic hospitality.
In his written speech upon landing, Xi praised the enduring friendship between China and Peru, noting that Peru was among the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic ties with China. He emphasized the continual development of bilateral relations in recent years and expressed optimism that his visit would further elevate the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership, leading to fruitful cooperation across various sectors.
Looking ahead to the upcoming APEC leaders' meeting, Xi highlighted China's commitment to collaborating with all parties to build an open Asia-Pacific economy, promote global economic growth, and foster an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
As Xi traveled from the airport to the hotel, he was greeted by Chinese expatriates, Chinese institutions, students, and Peruvians along the streets, waving both Chinese and Peruvian flags, symbolizing the strong ties between the two nations.
