China Permits Philippines to Supply Grounded Warship in South China Sea

In a recent development in the South China Sea, the China Coast Guard (CCG) announced that it has granted permission for the Philippines to send a civilian vessel to deliver supplies to its grounded warship at Ren'ai Jiao.

Liu Dejun, a spokesperson for the CCG, emphasized that the agency has been meticulously overseeing the entire process to ensure smooth operations. \"The CCG conducted verification and maintained oversight throughout the process,\" Liu stated.

This move marks a significant moment in the long-standing presence of the Philippines' BRP Sierra Madre (LT-57) at Ren'ai Jiao. Grounded in May 1999, the vessel has remained as a maritime sentinel for over 25 years, despite repeated assurances from the Philippines to relocate it.

The CCG urged the Philippine side to fulfill its commitments and collaborate with China to maintain stability in the region's maritime affairs. \"The CCG will continue rights protection and law enforcement activities in China's Nansha Qundao, including Ren'ai Jiao, and its adjacent waters,\" Liu added.

As the Philippines continues its efforts to support the BRP Sierra Madre, this cooperation highlights a potential pathway for easing tensions and fostering collaborative management of the South China Sea’s strategic waterways.
