China and Peru Partner to Transform Chancay Port into Smart Green Hub

China and Peru are joining forces to develop the Chancay Port into South America's first smart and green hub. According to a spokesperson from China’s foreign ministry, this collaboration will encompass construction, management, and operation phases.

The inauguration of Chancay Port was attended by both heads of state via video on November 14 in Lima. Emphasizing its strategic importance under the Belt and Road Initiative, the port aims to revolutionize sea shipping by reducing transit time from Peru to China to just 23 days, cutting logistics costs by at least 20%.

Lin Jian, the foreign ministry spokesperson, highlighted that the first phase of the project is expected to generate $4.5 billion in annual revenues for Peru and create over 8,000 direct jobs. Beyond economic gains, the port will strengthen Peru's position as a key gateway linking Asia with Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering regional integration and development.

Moreover, the development plan includes establishing animal rescue services to enhance the environment of wetlands, beaches, and local habitats, contributing to the sustainable growth of the local economy and society.

Dubbed the starting point of a \"New Era Inca Trail,\" the Chancay Port will connect land and sea routes between Asia and the Latin America and Caribbean regions. This initiative underscores the shared vision of enhancing coastal economies along the Pacific and promoting prosperity across the region.

China will adhere to the mutual understandings between the two presidents, ensuring the successful implementation of the Chancay Port project from start to finish. This partnership aims to empower the development of Pacific coastal economies, bringing prosperity and betterment to Peru and other Latin American and Caribbean countries.
