China Unveils Ambitious Climate Adaptation Plan at COP29

At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, China introduced its Action Plan for Early Warning Systems to Promote Climate Change Adaptation (2025-2027). This comprehensive strategy underscores China’s dedication to assisting developing nations in bolstering their climate resilience.

The plan highlights four pivotal areas: sharing expertise on climate risk assessment, developing advanced climate risk monitoring and forecasting platforms, exchanging experiences in creating climate-adaptive societies, and enhancing early warning systems in developing regions. These initiatives aim to provide tangible support where it’s most needed.

A key component of the action plan is the launch of three Fengyun geostationary meteorological satellites within the next two years. These satellites will offer high-frequency meteorological disaster monitoring services to countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, significantly improving early warning capabilities.

Additionally, China is set to implement a flagship South-South cooperation project focused on early warning for climate change. This project will supply meteorological observation equipment and cloud-based early warning systems to participating developing countries, enhancing their ability to respond to climate-related challenges.

In a move to further global collaboration, the China Meteorological Administration and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment have signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with the World Meteorological Organization. This agreement supports the United Nations' \"Early Warnings for All\" initiative, aiming to make climate early warning services more accessible and effective worldwide.
