Ding reiterating China’s promise to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, underscored the importance of practical actions over mere declarations. He assured that China’s resolve to address climate change remains firm, irrespective of global political shifts or changes in other nations' policies.
China continues to uphold multilateralism, supporting the United Nations as the core of global climate governance. Ding stressed China’s role as a major contributor to international climate cooperation and expressed willingness to engage in open dialogue, reject unilateralism, and foster positive outcomes at COP29 to advance the multilateral climate process.
Secretary-General Guterres acknowledged China’s significant efforts towards its “dual carbon” goals and expressed appreciation for its long-standing support of the United Nations. He affirmed the UN’s readiness to enhance cooperation with China to ensure the success of COP29 and effectively address global climate challenges.
