China Condemns US Restrictions on Semiconductor Trade as Non-Market Practice

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Thursday voiced strong criticism against the United States for its recent actions in the semiconductor sector. Commerce ministry spokesperson He Yongqian labeled the US measures as a \"typical non-market practice,\" emphasizing the negative impact on global trade.

He Yongqian addressed the issue during a press conference, responding to inquiries about reports that the United States had directed Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC) to limit shipments of advanced chips to the Chinese mainland.

\"For some time, the United States has been abusing export control measures, implementing long-arm jurisdiction, and continuously intensifying the suppression and containment of China in the semiconductor sector, which is cutting off the global semiconductor market,\" He stated. He further criticized the actions as a \"serious breach of international economic and trade rules and a gross interference in free trade.\"

The spokesperson highlighted the significance of semiconductors in the global industrial landscape, noting that such restrictions disrupt the established division of labor and cooperation. He warned that the US's approach not only harms China's interests but also jeopardizes the collaborative efforts that drive scientific and technological advancements worldwide.

He concluded by stressing that the US's actions would undermine global economic and trade cooperation, ultimately affecting all parties involved in the semiconductor market.
