Taiwan Residents Flow to Chinese Mainland with 70% Growth in 2023

Visits by Taiwan residents to the Chinese mainland have seen a significant increase of 70% in 2023, surpassing three million entries since the start of the year, according to a Chinese mainland spokesperson.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, highlighted these figures during a recent press briefing. He emphasized that this surge reflects the prevailing public sentiments in the Taiwan region, showcasing the common aspirations of Taiwan residents for peace, development, and enhanced cooperation.

Chen added that the Chinese mainland continues to welcome and support the extensive participation of Taiwan residents in cross-Strait exchanges across various fields. Looking ahead, the mainland plans to improve systems and policies to further enhance the well-being of Taiwan residents and foster closer connections between both sides of the Taiwan Straits through continued exchanges and integration.
