Russian President Vladimir Putin has highlighted an unprecedented level of mutual trust between Russia and China, reaffirming that their strategic cooperation does not target any third party, including the United States.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club's plenary session, Putin emphasized that the deep-rooted trust between the two nations has elevated their bilateral relations to new heights. He outlined the expansive collaboration between Russia and China, spanning key sectors such as energy and high technology, where their efforts effectively complement one another.
Putin underscored the significance of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), describing it as a venture that aligns seamlessly with the interests of both countries. He pointed out that the stable political and economic environment in Central Asia not only supports Russia's strategic goals but also fosters cooperation, with no competition between Russia and China in the region.
Reiterating the non-targeted nature of their partnership, Putin stated that the primary objective of Russia-China collaboration is to support national development and ensure the safety and security of their citizens. He clarified that Russia is not aligning with any nation to counter another, maintaining a stance of mutual cooperation.
Additionally, Putin pointed out that the increasing cooperation between Russia and China contributes positively to regional and global stability. He noted that their joint military exercises are focused on safeguarding their own security and do not pose a threat to the East Asia region.
Addressing the rising tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, Putin attributed much of the unrest to provocations by Western entities, including NATO and regular U.S.-Japan military drills. He also criticized the Taiwan region for escalating tensions in the Asia-Pacific to garner external support, reaffirming his firm support for the one-China policy.
