China Enhances Commitment to Asia-Pacific at 2024 APEC Summit in Peru

Since its inception over three decades ago, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) has emerged as a pivotal engine of economic growth, uniting 21 member economies that account for roughly 62% of the global GDP and nearly half of the world's trade. As the 2024 APEC gathering approaches, anticipation builds for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled to take place in Lima, Peru, from November 13 to 17.

China, a key player in APEC, is set to reaffirm its commitment to regional economic cooperation. At the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the summit and embark on a state visit to Peru. This marks another significant step in China's active involvement within the APEC framework.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in 2022, China's foreign trade with other APEC economies reached a staggering $3.74 trillion, accounting for 59.7% of its total import and export value. This robust economic engagement underscores China's pivotal role within the Asia-Pacific community.

Highlighting the importance of his attendance, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, \"President Xi attending the meeting is an important head-of-state diplomatic event carried out by China towards the Asia-Pacific, which demonstrates the great importance China attaches to Asia-Pacific economic cooperation.\" This sentiment reflects China's ongoing dedication to fostering stronger ties and collaborative growth among APEC's member economies.
