China and Myanmar Strengthen Bilateral Ties at Greater Mekong Summit

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has emphasized the importance of Myanmar in China's neighborhood diplomacy, reaffirming China's commitment to supporting Myanmar's development path suited to its national conditions.

During a meeting with Myanmar's leader Min Aung Hlaing in Kunming, Yunnan Province, at the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion Summit held on November 6 and 7, Premier Li highlighted China's readiness to work with Myanmar to advance the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor under the high-quality Belt and Road framework.

Premier Li called for enhanced cooperation in education, culture, and tourism, aiming to increase local exchanges and collaborate on combating cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecom fraud. He also expressed hope that Myanmar would ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects within its borders.

Myanmar's leader Min Aung Hlaing expressed gratitude for China's valuable assistance in Myanmar's economic and social development, as well as in responding to natural disasters. He acknowledged China's positive role in promoting peace and reconciliation and pledged to ensure the safety of Chinese endeavors in Myanmar.

Looking ahead, Min Aung Hlaing stated that Myanmar intends to leverage the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year to deepen bilateral friendship and cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, agriculture, poverty reduction, and peopleโ€™s livelihoods.
