China and Malaysia Forge New Paths for Collaboration in Emerging Fields

In a significant stride towards strengthening bilateral ties, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met in Shanghai for the 7th China International Import Expo. The leaders emphasized the need to deepen the alignment of their development strategies and explore cooperation potential in emerging areas.

Premier Li highlighted that China-Malaysia relations have entered a new stage, underpinned by mutual respect, trust, and equality. He reiterated China's commitment to supporting Malaysia on core interests and major concerns, aiming for win-win cooperation that promotes shared development and prosperity.

The two leaders discussed the advancement of flagship projects, including the East Coast Rail Link and the Malaysia-China \"Two Countries, Twin Parks,\" while also exploring new opportunities in sectors such as cultural exchanges, education, and visa facilitation. These initiatives are designed to foster greater mutual understanding, particularly among the youth.

Premier Li also assured strong support for Malaysia's upcoming role as the rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next year. He expressed China's readiness to enhance cooperation within regional and multilateral frameworks to promote economic integration and safeguard the peaceful development of Asia.

Prime Minister Anwar echoed the sentiments, reaffirming Malaysia's strong ties with China and expressing willingness to deepen Belt and Road cooperation. He highlighted plans to expand collaboration in trade, investment, the digital economy, and education, while also supporting China's entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

As Malaysia prepares to chair ASEAN, Anwar stated the nation's intention to enhance coordination with China on both international and regional issues, leveraging this partnership to drive forward mutual growth and stability.
