In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral ties, China and Japan held high-level political consultations in Beijing on Monday. China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, and Takeo Akiba, secretary general of Japan's National Security Secretariat, participated in the meetings under the China-Japan high-level political dialogue mechanism.
Wang Yi highlighted that China-Japan relations are currently at a critical stage of improvement. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the consensus reached by both nations' leaders and maintaining the right direction for enhancing and developing bilateral relations. Wang expressed the goal of building a constructive and stable relationship that aligns with the requirements of the new era.
Addressing the Japanese delegation, Wang urged Japan to establish an objective and rational understanding of China. He emphasized honoring China's political stance on the Taiwan question and safeguarding the political foundation of China-Japan relations. Wang called on Japan to take concrete actions to implement the important consensus of being cooperation partners rather than threats, aiming to promote the steady and long-term development of bilateral ties.
