In a significant step towards climate resilience, Kenya has launched a new initiative aimed at planting bamboo trees along the Nzoia River basin in western Busia County.
The project, funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences through its Sino-Africa Joint Research Center, targets flood control, enhancing climate resilience, and improving food security for local communities.
By restoring the ecological health of the Nzoia River, a major tributary of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest freshwater body, the initiative not only aims to mitigate the impacts of flooding but also contributes to the sustainable development of the region.
Local communities are expected to benefit from increased food security and a more stable environment, while the broader ecological restoration efforts will support biodiversity and water management in the area.
