Chinese Swimmers Make a Splash at Singapore World Cup

Chinese athletes had a stellar first day at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Singapore, bringing home an impressive haul of one gold, two silver, and one bronze medals.

Qin Haiyang dominated the men's 100-meter breaststroke, finishing with a time of 55.61 seconds. His performance not only earned him the gold medal but also matched the World Cup record, outpacing Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus and Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands, who took silver and bronze respectively.

Yang Junxuan and Yu Yiting contributed to China's success with two silver medals. Yang secured second place in the women's 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.89 seconds, just 0.66 seconds behind Katarzyna Wasick of Poland. Siobhan Bernadette Haughey representing China's Hong Kong clinched the bronze with a time of 24.00 seconds.

In the women's 100-meter medley, Yu Yiting narrowly missed the gold, finishing 0.87 seconds behind Kate Douglass of the United States with a time of 56.57 seconds. Beata Nelson of the U.S. took the bronze with a time of 57.53 seconds.

Kate Douglass made headlines by setting a new world record in the women's 200-meter breaststroke, completing the race in 2:12.72. She surpassed Alina Zmushka of Belarus and Tara Kinder of Britain, who won silver and bronze respectively.

Pan Zhanle added to China's medal tally with a bronze in the men's 400-meter freestyle, finishing in 3:38.79. He was bested by Duncan Scott of Britain and Kieran Smith of the United States, who took gold and silver with times of 3:34.46 and 3:36.97 respectively.

China's strong performance in Singapore highlights the country's growing prowess in competitive swimming, setting the stage for future international competitions.
