Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian recently celebrated the successes of the decade-long China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership. Speaking at the 2024 Australia-China Economic Cooperation Forum in Hobart, Tasmania, Xiao highlighted the significant benefits both nations have reaped from their collaboration.
Xiao emphasized the partnership's role in advancing solar energy technology, positioning it as a model for global green energy initiatives. He also noted the strengthening of cultural and educational exchanges, which have deepened the bonds between the two countries. \"Since the establishment of China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership, our economic and trade cooperation has reached a new level, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples,\" Xiao stated.
The comprehensive strategic partnership, established in 2014, has seen China become Tasmania's largest trading partner. High-quality Tasmanian products such as salmon and cherries are highly sought after by Chinese consumers, contributing to a robust export market.
Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff echoed these sentiments, highlighting that China is the state's strongest global trade partner and the top destination for its exports. In August alone, Tasmania exported goods worth 1.4 billion Australian dollars (approximately $920.6 million) to China, accounting for 30 percent of the state's total exports. Premier Rockliff noted the diverse range of Tasmanian exports, including world-class seafood, dairy, whiskey, and other premium products.
Looking ahead, Premier Rockliff is set to embark on an official visit to Shanghai, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Fujian Province in November. The visit aims to further expand the partnership between China and Tasmania, focusing on key sectors such as trade, tourism, aquaculture, forestry, arts, culture, and entertainment.
