China defeated Vietnam 2-0 in their second game at the women's football Yongchuan International Tournament in Chongqing Municipality on Tuesday, securing the championship with their second win.
Both teams had previously beaten Uzbekistan—China with a 3-0 victory on October 26 and Vietnam with a 2-0 win on October 23. As a result, the winner of the China-Vietnam match lifted the tournament trophy.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Zhang Xin received a long pass in the box and successfully netted the first goal for China.
In the second half, China's coach Ante Milicic substituted in multiple backup players to give them rest. Despite Vietnam's increased efforts to rally, China maintained their advantage, safeguarding the lead. In the third minute of stoppage time, a chaotic situation in the Vietnamese area led to an own goal by Tran Thi Thu Thao.
China had not played any international games in five months before the Yongchuan Tournament. Coach Milicic expressed satisfaction with the team's performance in keeping a clean sheet after their 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan.
\"The result sent a positive signal,\" the coach told reporters.
\"The new coach has brought us a new atmosphere, new style of play, and new tactics,\" Tang Jiali said. \"Little by little, we have been trying to do what he requests on the field. I hope we can play with better excitement and coordination in the future.\"
