A groundbreaking moment for urban mobility unfolded on Sunday as XPENG AEROHT, the aviation affiliate of electric vehicle giant XPENG, began construction of a pioneering factory in Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province.
Touted as \"the world's first mass-production facility for flying cars,\" the new manufacturing base signals a significant leap in the low-altitude economy. The first phase of the factory spans 18 hectares and is dedicated to producing the air modules for the modular flying car, aptly named the \"Land Aircraft Carrier.\" The facility boasts a designed annual capacity of 10,000 units.
The Land Aircraft Carrier successfully completed its manned test flight in September and is slated to begin pre-sales by the end of the year, according to Zhao Deli, founder of XPENG AEROHT. This innovation not only represents a technological milestone but also aligns with Guangzhou's vision to become a hub in the burgeoning low-altitude economy.
Huangpu District in Guangzhou already hosts over 50 enterprises dedicated to this sector, covering various aspects from development and manufacturing to application. Meanwhile, China's capital, Beijing, is planning to support more than 5,000 enterprises in the low-altitude economy by 2027, expanding flight scenarios to include emergency rescue and express delivery services.
As more Chinese cities invest in the low-altitude economy, the development of flying car technology is poised to transform urban transportation and open new avenues for economic growth and innovation.
