Johannesburg G20 Summit Elevates Global South Voice

On November 22, 2025, the G20 Summit kicked off in Johannesburg, South Africa, marking the first time the event is hosted on the African continent. Over the next two days, delegates from around the world will focus on three pressing issues: climate financing, food security and artificial intelligence governance.

A day before the summit opened, the Chinese premier, Li Qiang, met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Johannesburg. Under the strategic guidance of the two leaders, the pair outlined plans to advance an all-round strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, aiming to benefit the peoples of both nations.

Li emphasized that the Chinese mainland is ready to continue working with South Africa to carry forward their traditional friendship and expand cooperation across various fields. This joint effort seeks to promote the common development of the two nations, as well as unity and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Africa as a whole.

As the summit unfolds on November 22 and 23, all eyes are on whether this stronger Global South voice can reshape the global agenda and bring lasting impact to climate action, food resilience and AI governance frameworks.
