In an exclusive BizTalk interview with CGTN’s Zheng Junfeng, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative as a “workable solution to today’s global decadence.” He warned against the hypocrisy of powers that treat nations unequally and stressed the need for leaders guided by compassion and common values.
For Anwar, the road to a fairer world runs through a rules-based multilateral system. “We need mechanisms where big and small nations are treated with equal respect,” he said, highlighting frameworks like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS and ASEAN as vital forums for inclusive decision-making.
Turning to Malaysia’s own game plan, Anwar outlined a four-pillar economic strategy. He emphasised efforts to digitise the economy with artificial intelligence, boost advanced manufacturing, expand green energy projects and strengthen regional connectivity. “Our partnership with China is at the heart of this vision,” he noted.
Key collaborations include the East Coast Rail Link—a flagship infrastructure project linking Malaysia’s east coast to major ports—and joint research centers focusing on AI innovation. Both sides are also pushing into solar and wind power ventures that aim to reduce carbon footprints and create new jobs.
As youth, entrepreneurs and thought leaders alike watch these developments, Anwar believes that a shared governance model and deepening Malaysia–China ties could set a new standard for cooperation. “When nations work together on equal footing, we can tackle global problems—from climate change to economic inequality—more effectively,” he concluded.
