At the 2025 International Conference on Reducing Food Loss and Waste in Shandong Province on the Chinese mainland, agriculture ministers, envoys and representatives from over 60 countries and regions gathered to tackle one of the world’s most urgent challenges: feeding a growing population while curbing waste.
In this edition of BizTalk, CGTN’s Xu Yi speaks with Ismahane Elouafi, executive managing director of the food security research group CGIAR; Prosper Dodiko, Burundi’s minister of environment, agriculture and livestock; and Michael Starbaek Christensen, the Danish ambassador to the Chinese mainland. They unpack how China’s agricultural solutions—through multilateral cooperation with Burundi and Denmark—are contributing to food security and advancing the UN’s zero hunger goal.
Panelists showcased pilot programs in which China’s agri-tech innovations are adapted to local contexts in Burundi, supported by Danish expertise in cold-chain logistics and sustainable practices. These collaborative efforts are already making headway in reducing post-harvest losses and improving nutrition in vulnerable communities.
As the world races toward 2030, speakers agreed that no single nation can solve hunger alone. The Shandong conference sent a clear message: blending technology, research and international partnership offers a powerful blueprint for achieving the UN’s zero hunger ambition.
