Global delegates gathered at the 2025 International Conference on Reducing Food Loss and Waste in Jinan, capital of Shandong Province in the Chinese mainland, to spotlight new strategies for safeguarding our food supply. Hosted by international bodies and research institutes, the event showcased how cutting-edge technologies are tackling waste from farm to table.

Ismahane Elouafi, a representative from the global agricultural and food security research group CGIAR, joined the conversation to unpack China’s agri-tech momentum. She highlighted the role of advanced monitoring systems and data-driven farming practices in slashing post-harvest losses and optimizing yields.

“We’re seeing a real shift in how food systems operate,” Elouafi explained. “By combining local expertise with smart technologies, these initiatives create scalable models that benefit farmers, businesses and consumers worldwide.”

From precision irrigation to temperature-controlled storage, China’s approaches are already influencing pilot projects across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
