New Milestone for Northwest China

This year, two key railway hubs in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region —Alashankou and Horgos —hit a combined total of over 10,000 China-Europe freight train trips. According to China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd., these corridors now account for more than half of all China-Europe routes, underpinning the stability and smooth operation of the global supply chain.

Key Numbers at a Glance

  • Alashankou (Alataw Pass): 124 routes to 21 countries; 9.77 million tonnes of cargo (+3.7% YoY)
  • Horgos: 89 routes serving 18 countries and 46 cities and regions; 7.96 million tonnes of cargo (+20.3% YoY)

Global Impact

For young global citizens and business enthusiasts, these networks promise faster delivery times and greater market reach —fueling everything from tech shipments to consumer goods. Thought leaders note how robust rail links can enhance trade resilience, while travelers and digital nomads see fresh chances for cross-border connections and cultural exchange.

As rail ports continue to expand, eyes around the world will be on Xinjiang’s railways —where each train not only carries cargo, but also fuels global cooperation and economic growth.
