Overseas Chinese Propel $6B Belt and Road Push in Chongqing

In a dynamic gathering in the southwest Chinese mainland city of Chongqing, over 500 overseas Chinese representatives from more than 110 countries and regions convened for the first Belt and Road Conference for Overseas Chinese Cooperation and Development. The goal: harness global diaspora energy to power new projects across multiple sectors.

At the heart of the event was the signing of deals worth 43.79 billion yuan (about $6.13 billion), spanning 66 projects in green energy, cross-border trade, advanced manufacturing and the digital economy. These agreements showcase how collaborative investments can drive sustainable growth and technological innovation along Belt and Road routes.

The conference also saw the launch of the Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Business Network, bringing together founding members from Chinese business organizations in 72 countries and regions. By integrating expertise and resources, the network aims to foster cooperation in trade, science, technology and culture—opening doors for startups, investors and changemakers worldwide.

Adding to the momentum, organizers released ten exemplary "Overseas Chinese for Belt and Road" case studies. From groundbreaking new energy solutions to humanitarian aid projects, these stories highlight how diaspora leaders are making real-world impact in their communities.

Jointly hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the governments of Chongqing and Sichuan Province, the conference underscored the power of global Chinese networks in shaping the future of the Belt and Road Initiative. As this new business community takes shape, young entrepreneurs and digital nomads have fresh pathways to collaborate across borders, driving inclusive and resilient development.
