China’s Vice Premier Calls for SCO Digital Economy Boost at Tianjin Forum

At the 2025 SCO Digital Economy Forum in Tianjin Municipality in the northern Chinese mainland, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang set the stage for a next-level digital makeover.

In his keynote speech, Ding stressed that SCO members and partners must accelerate the implementation of the consensus from the SCO Heads of State Council and the Global Digital Compact. By aligning policy frameworks and planning cycles across members and tapping into cooperation platforms like this forum, he forecasted more inclusive, borderless digital growth.

He urged countries to bolster digital infrastructure connectivity—from cross-border fiber networks to cloud data centers—while optimizing computing power scheduling and data processing. The result? A high-quality Digital Silk Road that promises a more extensive, stable, and responsive digital backbone.

Ding also championed the sharing of cutting-edge digital innovations and expanding accessibility so that small businesses and remote communities can ride the digital fast lane. On the governance front, he called for a multilateral digital security framework and stronger collaboration under the United Nations’ umbrella for global digital rules and standards.

The forum, co-hosted by the National Data Administration and the Tianjin municipal government, drew roughly 600 participants—including government officials, tech entrepreneurs, and scholars—from the Chinese mainland and abroad. As the digital era accelerates, such gatherings could become the launchpad for the next wave of cross-border digital breakthroughs.
