At the 2025 Annual Gala of the U.S.-China Business Council, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng delivered a compelling message: mutual benefit has always been at the heart of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation.
Under the theme "Seeking a New Path for U.S.-China Relations," Xie underscored how decades of collaboration have fueled growth not only for both economies but for the broader world. In an era of sluggish global expansion, he warned, protectionism is like "drinking poison to quench thirst." "Growing China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation over the years has brought benefits not only to both countries but also to the wider world," he noted.
Pointing to the recent phone call between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump on June 5, Ambassador Xie urged stakeholders to follow their strategic guidance. He stressed that China's sincerity in cooperation must be matched by respect for its sovereignty, security and development interests—red lines that cannot be crossed. At the same time, he affirmed that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation remain the guiding principles for a sustainable partnership.
Concluding his remarks, Xie called on the USCBC and the U.S. business community to keep champions of dialogue and exchange in the spotlight. "Believing in China is believing in a better tomorrow, and investing in China is investing in the future," he said, inviting entrepreneurs and policymakers to seize the opportunity for shared prosperity.
