China-Africa Expo Kicks Off with $11B in New Deals and Modernization Focus

The Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo opened on Thursday in Changsha City, Hunan Province in the Chinese mainland, spotlighting the shared vision of modernization between the Chinese mainland and Africa.

Under the theme "China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization," the four-day event brings together nearly 4,700 Chinese and African companies and over 30,000 participants. Organizers report that preliminary cooperation projects already top $11 billion in value.

At the opening ceremony, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said: "No matter how the international landscape may change, the Chinese mainland will always stand firmly with Africa, offering strong support for the continent's modernization and serving as a true friend and sincere brother in Africa's journey toward development."

African leaders including Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi joined the ceremony, underscoring the global significance of deepening China-Africa ties.

Wang emphasized plans to exchange governance experience, align development strategies and implement 10 partnership actions for modernization. He also pledged to sign more economic deals, boost imports of African goods, and support industrialization and digital transformation across the continent.
