At a press conference hosted by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) on Tuesday, officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Health Commission laid out a suite of fresh measures designed to improve social welfare and strengthen support for families and retirees across the Chinese mainland.
Fiscal Support for Education and Employment
The Ministry of Finance revealed that the national budget for education expenditure will approach 4.5 trillion yuan ($626 billion), and that social security and employment spending will also approach the same level. These funds are earmarked to enhance the quality of education and provide robust social security and employment support.
Pension Adjustments
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the minimum monthly basic pension for urban and rural residents will increase by 20 yuan. Basic pensions for current retirees will also be raised, with officials promising timely and full disbursement to support a growing retiree population.
Childcare and Elderly Care Benefits
The Ministry of Civil Affairs outlined plans to establish a childcare subsidy system and to strengthen community-supported home-based elderly care services. The goal is to improve care levels for children and for elderly residents who are unable to fully care for themselves.
Collectively, these policies underscore the Chinese mainland’s push to ensure and improve people’s well-being, with a focus on sustainable social welfare and inclusive support networks.
